THE MICK GEORGE NETS 2018

Proposal

A planning application has been approved for a brand new all-weather dual lane net facility, and various funding options to enable this project to commence have been explored by the cricket club.

This type of facility would provide Bluntisham Cricket Club with an opportunity to improve the current players at the club, both seniors, and juniors, and also attract new players. Potentially making Bluntisham a recognised sporting strong village in Cambridgeshire.

The Grant

Quote from club president, Geoff Curtis:

"The club is delighted beyond measure to have received confirmation of funding by Mick George for our new twin lane all-weather practice facility. To receive support from a company of the stature of Mick George is a huge accolade for the club and this will now provide the foundation for BCC to become a centre of excellence for cricket in the area.

The benefit will reach far beyond the club as the new facility will be made available to surrounding communities and schools at all levels.

We will be able to have the nets operational for 2018 pre-season training and this will enable us to consolidate a growing junior team, both boys, and girls, which will secure the future of the club."

The Build...

On the 23rd of November 2017, the groundwork for the brand new net facility got underway to the east side of the village hall.

First, work got started to remove the old net facility in the corner of the playing field adjacent to Mill Lane. Then the work on the new facility took place.

The soil was removed, then a number of stone based layers were put down with the last adding bounce to the wicket. Once all the layers had been individually rolled the fencing posts were installed.

Over the Christmas period, the carpet was being manufactured so post-Christmas TotalPlayLtd could come back to complete the build. On return the carpet was laid, metal net posts installed and the netting hung around.

All that was left to do was for President Geoff Curtis to sign the paperwork, handing the superb facility over to BCC - 25|1|18

A message from the President...

The installation of the new practice nets was completed in mid-January thus bringing a successful conclusion to our endeavours of the past couple of years. Whilst it has, at times, been a frustrating and disappointingly slow process we have ultimately acquired a magnificent facility.

We are, of course, immensely indebted to Mick George who saw the potential at the club and provided the substantial funding that was required. We were also very fortunate to receive the total support of the Parish Council and invaluable financial contributions from local charities The Feoffees and The Saywell School Trust.

Our chosen supplier Total Play proved to be every bit as good as we had hoped and carried out the installation in a thoroughly professional manner, on schedule and with no disruption to Village Hall users.

The Club now has a superb practice facility which can only have a positive impact and will surely advance the playing standards at all levels. We look forward with optimism to the coming season.
