I am just going to update you all on the club's teams respective starts to their seasons after a month in.
The first team are a third of the way through their season and are sitting nicely in the promotion places in 2nd. After not winning any of their first 3 games of the season, including a tied thriller at Littleport, the firsts have bounced back winning all three games since. This means their record so far is: P6 W3 T1 L1 A1. The highest run scorer so far is captain Stuart Cornwell with a total of 202 in 5 innings at an average of 40.40 and scoring 2 50's. Steve Dighton is the man with the first 100 of the season coming in 106 balls, hitting 16 fours and 1 six against Milton CC. Now onto the bowling stats and Alex Merry is out in front on his own with 21 wickets in 44.4 overs, an economy of 3.13, an average of 6,67 and a strike rate of 12.76. He also has the only 5 wicket haul of the season in the whole club. Steve Merry has taken the most catches with 5.
The second team having started the season well with a win vs St. Ives, two conceded wins and an abandoned game saw them rocket up the table, however back to back losses and the victory against St. Ives being taken away due to them dropping out the league, have left them in 8th (14). With the team working hard and much improvement from last year their current record is: P5 L2 A1 WCN 2. Nigel Slack has found some form with the bat being the highest run scorer with 56 in 4 innings at an average of 28. With no player yet to get a 50 for the 2nd's, batting is the area needing improvement for the rest of the season. The bowlers have been in better form with Mervyn Pickard, Ben Beardsley and Nigel Slack all claiming 5 wickets and all under the average of 15. Max Dighton has taken the most catches in the field with 2.
Both junior teams are up and running in their respective leagues. They haven't played many games but are really striving forward and improving on years gone by.
The numbers at midweek nets sessions are also really strong and we continue to welcome any new members that want to play for us. We are also waiting still in response to our exciting application for a dual-lane net facility to be built next year.
Further updates will be brought throughout the season.
